Please join us in welcoming our new Lead UI Developer, Michael Black. Get to know him better below:

Tell us a little about your most recent work experiences...

Most recently, I’ve been working as the Front End Tech Lead across the AFL web properties, which included a full rebuild and re-platform of all the websites; AFL.com.au, AFL On Demand, womens.afl & the 18 Club websites.

I’m a big AFL fan, so it was a fantastic opportunity to build something that I still use day-to-day.

I have an identical twin brother, but unfortunately being a twin doesn’t come with any kind of mind-reading powers - the question comes up a lot though!

Share a little bit about your personal interests...

Travelling and going on hikes and beach trips with my family.

Music! Melbourne has always been one of the best cities for live music, and I’m looking forward to getting out to more gigs now that COVID restrictions are lifting.

As I said, I’m a fan of AFL and also enjoy watching other sports like football (soccer).

Which small business do you personally love the most...

I’ve just moved to the Mornington Peninsula, and we’re lucky to be surrounded by some amazing independent craft beer & spirit producers and wineries!

Favourite movie, song and food!

Movie - I recently watched The Green Knight and really enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to the new Dune movie.

Song - it's hard to pick one song, it changes all the time! My latest Spotify Wrapped tells me that I’ve been listening to a lot of music from The War On Drugs, and that Pink Floyd was my top artist from the past year. I’m always happy to come back to artists like The Drones and Pearl Jam though.

Food - I have great memories of eating some amazing food during a holiday in Italy with my fiancé; fresh pasta, pizza and gelato.
